Consciousness And Vitamin C

I am a passel of protoplasm

perturbed to be part of the Universe.

If, rather, I had not been perturbed,

I would still have been part, but unknowing,

And as such an ignoramus and ape,

I’d have been disinclined to write poetry;

instead, given over, in truth and limb

to fruit: that’s what I’d be eating.

Thus would I get lots of Vitamin C

without knowing it was important.
