Knees

A knee is a certain kind of construction,

intended to flex and support.

If you were a carpenter and built such a thing

you’d call it a knee. Prosthetists do.

I have two well-made ones made

in first half of the last century

by God Himself,

when perhaps at His peak.

But they’re getting old

and less knee-like daily,

painfully inflexible.

I force them,

kneel on them,

sit on them, saying:

Be knees, knees,

be knees.
