Vitamin C And Consciousness

I am a parcel of protoplasm

disturbed to be part of the Universe.

If, rather, I were not so perturbed,

I would still be part, but unknowing,

And as such an ignoramus or ape,

disinclined to write poetry.

Instead, given over, in truth and limbs

to eating fruit I'd be undisturbed.

Thus, would I get lots of Vitamin C

never knowing it was important.
